Public River Access Locations
For your convenience there are four public access points for the French Broad River in Transylvania County.
Champion Park, Rosman, NC
The river begins here and runs north 210 miles to Lake Douglas, Tennessee. The park has paved parking and picnic tables.
Directions: From downtown Brevard go South on Broad Street and veer right to get onto US 64 West. Travel 7.8 miles on US 64. Take a left onto US 178 S/Pickens Highway. Travel about .8 miles and turn right onto Chestnut at the second block turn left onto Main Street – the park is just ahead on the right.
Island Ford River Access, Island Ford Road.
This is the second public access point to the French Broad River. It is 10 miles (or 4 hours) from Champion Park. The access point includes a gravel parking area.
Directions: From downtown Brevard go South on Broad Street and veer right to get onto US 64 West. Travel 2.9 miles on US 64. Take a left onto Island Ford Road and travel 2.5 miles to the river access point.
Hap Simpson Park, Off 276 South
This access point is just 1.5 miles from the intersection of Broad and Main Streets downtown. Directions: Travel south on Main Street (US 276). Entrance to the parking area is on the right. The access point is visible from the road. This park offers ample parking and picnic tables.
Wilson Road River Access, Off old Highway 64
This access point is 15 miles from Island Ford and is a simple gravel access point. Directions: Travel north on Broad Street/Highway 64 down Courthouse Hill. Veer to the right onto Old 64 (just past Ingles Grocery). Travel approximately 2.5 miles then turn right onto Wilson Road. Look for the river access at approximately 1 mile.
