Looking Glass Rock, Trail Directions
Looking Glass Rock is a climbers dream. The ‘Rock’ stands out as you travel along the Blue Ridge Parkway. For climbers it offers routes for beginning climbers up to extreme climbers. The 3 mile long, tear drop shaped, Looking Glass Rock offers three separate climbing areas on the North, South and Western exposures.
To access the South Face:
Slick Rock Falls Trail.
Driving from the main intersection to Pisgah National Forest – head North on 276 into the forest and travel for 5.3 miles (along the way you will pass by Davidson River campground on your left, ranger station on your right). At 5.3 miles veer left onto 475 and head toward the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education. At mile 6.8 you will pass the Pisgah Center on your left and continue forward on 475 (the road turns to gravel shortly after the Center). Almost immediately you will take a right onto 475B. Travel for 1.1 miles to a parking area on the right for a viewing of Slick Rock Falls. There is a map kiosk at the top of a few steps to help you orient yourself. About a 45 minute hike.
To access the Sun Wall and the Nose:
Sun Wall Trail.
Driving from the main intersection to Pisgah National Forest – head North on 276 into the forest and travel for 5.3 miles (along the way you will pass by Davidson River campground on your left, ranger station on your right). At 5.3 miles veer left onto 475 and head toward the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education. At mile 6.8 you will pass the Pisgah Center on your left and continue forward on 475 (the road turns to gravel shortly after the Center). Almost immediately you will take a right onto 475B. Travel for 3 miles to a parking area on the right for Sun Wall Trail. There is a map kiosk immediately past the parking area to help you orient yourself to the trails leading to the different climbing areas.
