Old Man River
Did you know the French Broad River is the third oldest river in the world?
That’s right, the river we spend so much time on is even older that the mountains it runs through! The river begins at ‘The Forks’ in Rosman where the North and West Forks come together and start their long journey to the Gulf of Mexico. Flowing 210 miles round about and through the mountains of Western North Carolina, the French Broad River is the longest free-flowing river in North Carolina.
You might be asking, which rivers are older. Only the Nile in Egypt and the New River, also in North Carolina, are older than the French Broad.
So, the next time you’re fishing or floating on the French Broad, take a moment to reflect on the events the old river has seen. Check out the Forks of the River at Headwaters Outfitters.
