Headwaters Outfitters, located at the intersection of Hwy. 64 and Hwy. 215 at the “Forks of the River,” offers guided fly fishing trips on the most beautiful and productive trout streams in the East. Stalk the elusive wild Brook and Rainbow trout in the backcountry or land trophy fish on our secluded private stream. Headwaters Outfitters will make your fish story come true. All of our trout trips offer beautiful mountain scenery, patient instruction and a chance to catch three different species of trout found locally – rainbow, brook and brown – known collectively as a “Southern Appalachian Grand Slam.”

School of Trout
At the Headwaters Outfitters’ “School of Trout,” we offer fly-fishing classes for everyone! Beginners have the opportunity to get their feet wet and learn the basics of fly angling, while intermediate anglers can hone their skills or learn new techniques on the water with experienced guides who love to teach. Join us and see why our Fly Fishing Schools are the easiest and most enjoyable way to learn this rewarding pastime!

Self-Guided Trips

Headwaters Outfitters offers 3, 4 & 7-hour self-guided canoe and kayak trips on the class I French Broad River. We provide canoes, kayaks, paddles, life jackets, transportation, and a river orientation. Great for beginners and experts alike!

Tubing

No better way to cool off on those hot summer days. You bring the friends and family and be ready for a fun day on the French Broad River! We provide the tubes, life jackets and transportation to and from the river.

Guided Canoe/Kayak Trips

Signs of Spring Along the French Broad – Spring is the perfect time to explore the beautiful scenery of the French Broad River. Join one of our experienced river guides and encounter the beauty and tranquility of this ancient river as it springs to life with the melodic chatter of wildlife and the colorful burst of spring flowers and new foliage. (Offered Saturdays in April & May)

Discovery at Dusk – Slip your canoe paddle into the tranquil waters of the French Broad and ease your way down stream as the day’s light fades to dusk. You’ll paddle 8 miles, approximately 4 hours downstream through what many claim as the most beautiful section of the French Broad River. Every trip provides the opportunity for a wide array of wildlife observation around every bend. (Offered Friday evenings in May & June)

Canoe/Kayak Camping

Looking for a great way to spend some family time in the great outdoors or perhaps a quick weekend getaway? A canoe camping trip with Headwaters Outfitters on the scenic French Broad River is the perfect way to get outdoors and introduce your friends and family to the joys of canoe or kayak camping. We make it easy for you by providing all the essential paddling gear, as well as transport to and from the river. You can even set up your campsite before you get on the water! Whether you’re a Boy Scout troop, a vacationing family, or a group of friends looking to get away from it all, now is the time to discover our overnight canoe camping trips on the peaceful French Broad River.
